POSITION TITLE: Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Chicago History Museum (CHM)
LOCATION/TEAM: Finance and Accounting
REPORTING TO: President and CEO Overview: As the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), you will be a key member of the executive leadership team, reporting to the Donald Lassere, with a dotted line to the CHM Board of Trustees. You will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the organization. You will provide strategic guidance, manage financial risks, and ensure the financial health and sustainability of the institution.
The CFO plays a critical role in driving business growth and optimizing financial performance. Financial Strategy and Planning:
• Develop and implement the institution’s financial strategy in alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
• Lead the annual budgeting process and long-term financial planning.
• Provide financial analysis and insights to support decision-making by the CEO and the Board of Directors. Financial Reporting and Compliance:
• Oversee the preparation and distribution of accurate and timely financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
• Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and accounting standards.
• Manage relationships with external auditors and regulatory authorities. Treasury and Cash Management:
• Manage cash flow, liquidity, and working capital to support operational needs and strategic initiatives.
• Optimize the institution’s capital structure and financing arrangements.
• Implement effective treasury management practices to minimize financial risks. Risk Management and Internal Controls: Identify and assess financial risks, including market, credit, and operational risks.
• Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and internal control procedures.
• Ensure compliance with internal control policies and procedures to safeguard company assets and maintain financial integrity. Financial Operations and Systems:
• Oversee financial operations, including accounting, tax, and payroll functions.
• Evaluate and implement financial systems and technology solutions to improve efficiency and accuracy.
• Drive process improvements and automation initiatives to streamline financial operations. August 26, 2024 2
• Train, supervise, and continuously develop the members of the finance and accounting team, currently comprised of 4 members, inclusive of the CFO.
Education/Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field; MBA or CPA preferred.
• Proven experience as a CFO or senior finance executive.
• Strong financial acumen and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide strategic insights.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively at all levels of the organization.
• Demonstrated ability to drive change and implement best practices in financial management.
• Understanding of non-profit accounting, including grant accounting compliance, and 501(c)3 tax compliance regulations.
