Overview The Department of Human Resources, Central Employees Services Division (CESD), seeks a dynamic, knowledgeable and customer service focused Safety Trainer to join the Safety unit where the priority is the health and safety of King County employees. CESD supports a thriving King County employment experience and provides integrated compensation, benefits, work/life well‑being, safety, and retirement planning services. This recruitment will be used to fill one immediate Career Service vacancy and to create an eligibility pool to fill additional Career Service, Term-Limited Temporary (TLT), or Special Duty Assignment (SDA) vacancies that may occur within the next six months. Responsibilities Conduct safety trainings including but not limited to: Adult First Aid/CPR/AED, WA State Flagger Certification, Defensive Driving, Forklift Operation, Bloodborne Pathogens and Heat Related Illness, Active Shooter and Workplace Violence Prevention, and other safety topics as assigned. Respond to training requests, schedule trainings, and enter training courses and program information into NEOGOV Learn. Deliver high-quality training and coordinate on-site, open-enrollment, field, and virtual sessions; administer assessments and evaluate learning outcomes. Develop and maintain educational resources; manage and update a library of training and reference content; create culturally appropriate safety materials. Set up and administer courses in the NEOGOV Learn platform, ensuring accurate registration, attendance tracking, and data reporting. Oversee training resources, including budgets, facilities, and materials to ensure smooth delivery of programs. Define program vision and strategy, develop work plans and program objectives for King County’s safety training efforts. Collaborate with management teams to assess safety training needs and develop, implement, and evaluate strategies to address them. Design and evaluate training programs; ensure alignment with state regulations and organizational goals. Develop learning plans based on department and individual needs. Respond to safety training inquiries from employees and management; coordinate with external vendors to facilitate training sessions. Refine and enrich safety programs to meet evolving employee needs and regulatory requirements. Support safety policy development and engage with external partners (e.g., Evergreen Safety Council, Red Cross, Health and Safety Institute) and relevant agencies (e.g., Washington State Department of Transportation and Labor & Industries). Collaborate with community partners to develop safety courses with organizations such as Evergreen Safety Council, National Safety Council, and Health and Safety Institute. Minimum Qualifications Three years of experience using established curriculum to provide training to adults in a classroom or in the field OR any equivalent combination of experience and education providing the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. Certified Trainer in Adult First Aid/CPR/AED, WA State Certified Flagging Instructor, Defensive Driving Trainer Certification, Forklift Trainer Certification, Qualified Trainer in Bloodborne Pathogens and Heat Related Illness, and OSHA Authorized Trainer for OSHA30 training OR ability to obtain certifications in subject areas within 3 months. Other Qualifications Experience designing training practices for learners with varying levels of technology proficiency. Ability to create clear and engaging visual presentations via PowerPoint or other online tools. Facilitate learning for adult learners in person and virtually using platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom. Maintain training records and update courses and attendance rosters in Learning Management Systems. Course Design and Adult Learning: knowledge of course design and adult learning styles. Safety Regulations: knowledge of OSHA and Washington State Department of Labor & Industries health and safety regulations. Desirable Qualifications Familiarity with King County’s HR practices, policies, and procedures. Experience in NEOGOV Learn managing training programs. Union Representation This position is represented by Teamsters Local 117/Professional & Technical and is classified as an Occupational Education and Training Program Administrator - Senior, class code: 2252400. Work Conditions and Environment This position requires travel to various King County worksites to meet with employees and provide training. A valid Washington State driver’s license to operate a Non-Revenue County Vehicle or ability to travel to remote worksites is required. The role may involve transporting training props and lifting approximately 20 pounds. Work Schedule and Telework Exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act and not overtime eligible. Bi-weekly pay every other Thursday. The Safety Trainer provides training across all shifts and may require early morning, evening, and occasional weekend work. The role is hybrid with limited telework (one day per week on average). Primary location is King Street Center, Seattle, WA. Onsite training will occur more frequently than virtual training.
