Provides assistance for the Preschool Program and Center for Childhood Deafness (CCD). Assists preschool educators with the daily functioning of the educational program and supervision of children enrolled in the program. Major responsibilities include assisting preschool teachers with daily functions such as bus duty, child supervision, feeding/toileting routines, daily planning, material construction, and classroom maintenance. Assists in providing developmentally appropriate practices facilitating language and overall growth of young children. Carries out educational plans as directed by teachers and support staff including speech-language therapists, audiologists, occupational/physical therapists. Assists students with self-care programs and professional staff in creating modified classroom materials. Completes documentation and record keeping for program administration. Assists in managing children's behavior positively and maintains good interpersonal relations with peers and professional staff. Performs captioning duties as needed and provides patient care and education according to the patient population served. Requires knowledge of child development, behavior management, proficient English communication skills, confidentiality, efficiency, ability to lift children, and establish supportive relationships. Requires high school diploma or equivalent, previous experience with young children, proficient English skills, and ability to learn sign language. Bachelor's degree preferred.
